"E" Words

This is for words starting with "E"

Elder Wand:

The Elder Wand was one of the Deathly Hallows, and was said to be given to Antioch Peverell by Death himself. There is another theory, however, that Antioch and his brothers themselves had a part in creating the Elder Wand, and that the story of death was just a myth that arose over time. It was supposedly the very first of the “Deathly Hallows,” and is also known by many other names: The Deathstick, Wand of Destiny, Eldruhn Wand, the Ellhorn Wand. It was said to be the most powerful wand in existent, and could accomplish the seemingly impossible. It was also said to have a threstral hair as a core. Throughout the centuries, it had become known for constantly being in bloody hands- many killed the previous owners just so they could acquire ownership of the wand- it was only when the owner was disarmed, or killed, that the wand’s full power would be passed to the new owner- or as Xeno Lovegood said, “the possessor of the wand must capture it from its previous owner, if her is to be truly master of it.” Just stealing the wand would not work- hence its name as the Deathstick and Wand of Destiny. Its power could never be diminished unless its current owner would suffer a natural death, not caused by any particular individual. This was Albus Dumbledore’s goal, but in the end,  it will probably be Harry Potter who accomplishes this task of ridding the wand of its great power.

Barnabas Deverill:

Barnabas Deverill was a wizard who became one of the past owners of the Elder Wand. He became the Master of the Elder Wand around the 18th century, and with it, gained a reputation as being one of the most feared warlocks of his time. However, he lost this title, and was defeated and killed by Loxias, to which the Elder Wand passed on its power next.

Loxias:

Loxias, as mentioned above, acquired the wand after murdering Barnabas Deverill. Xeno Lovegood mentions this briefly to the trio as he lays out examples in which the Elder Wand had been passed down in history, calling him the “dreadful Loxias.” He renamed the wand the “Deathstick,” and merely used it to kill whoever he found displeasing. Xeno mentions that it may be Arcus or Livius who kill Loxias and acquire the wand from him, but that that is where the “trail goes cold.” According to Albus Dumbledore’s notes in “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” many claimed to have killed him- including his own mother. With these different views and opinions, the truth on who actually acquired the wand afterward still remains a mystery.
